West Berwick Women's Open announced....
To be held June 21, 2010 at Mt. Carmel Golf Course....

The West Berwick Golf Club has announced that they will hold their first annual Women's Open on Monday, June 21.  The club also announced that the trophy will be called the Catriona Matthew Trophy in honor of the winner of the 2009 Women's British Open.  Catriona is a resident of North Berwick, Scotland and a member of the North Berwick Golf Club - the club which West Berwick Golf Club uses as their model.  Catriona, via email, was notified of the West Berwick request to name the trophy after her and said, "Sounds fine to me and a nice honour.  Please pass on my thanks to the West Berwick club members for thinking of me."
The tournament will begin at 11am with a shotgun start.  Details are to be worked out, but all women golfers are invited to reserve this date to be included in this great new tournament.  Food and Awards will also be provided by the West Berwick Golf Club.

MCHS to host a team golf tournament Monday, Aug 16, 2010....
West Berwick Golf Club to underwrite the event.......
Mt. Carmel Municipal Golf Course will be the home of the MCHS Invitational Team golf tournament on Monday, August 16, 2010.   The Aces will open their fall schedule at a home event made possible by the underwriting of the entire event by the West Berwick Golf Club.  As many as 12 teams could vie for the title of this hopefully annual tournament.  It will be open to both boy's and girl's golf teams from Illinois and Indiana, although Indiana has spring golf for boys.  Preliminary plans call for a 9am shotgun start and then lunch at 1pm paid for by West Berwick.  Special thanks to Rick Bobbitt and the city for allowing such an event to take place.
MCHS Senior golfer signs National Letter of Intent......
Captain Jared Paddick signs with Rend Lake College.....
Jared Paddick, a senior at MCHS, signed with Rend Lake College, one of the premier junior college golf programs in the nation, Tuesday, Jan 26, in a ceremony at the Mt. Carmel Municipal Golf Course Pro Shop.  The signing was witnessed by his parents, Jeff and Regina Paddick, both sets of grandparents, Leonard and Kay Paddick as well as Ron and Ruth Gibbs, both coaches, John White of MCHS and Dave Smith of Rend Lake, and MCHS Athletic Director Doug Spear and Karin Kelsey, who coaches the MCHS Lady Aces golf team and is Spear's administrative assistant.
"I just want to go to Rend Lake because they have a good history as a school," said Jared Paddick. "I just want to keep my success going in golf and see where it can take me."  Rend Lake has twice finished Second in the NJCAA National Tournament, has a Third Place and a Fourth Place finish, two Fifth Place finishes, a Sixth Place, two Seventh Place finishes and two 10th Place finishes as well as a 15th Place finish. Rend Lake's David Griffin also was the 2009 NJCAA Individual National Champion.
Jared Paddick said he would probably major in business. After Rend Lake he hopes to transfer to Auburn University in Alabama.  "I was going to go to Eastern Kentucky, that was back when I was a junior, and major in golf business," he said. "But that kind of changed when signed with Rend Lake. I don't really know if there's a future in golf, but I hope I can be a pro somewhere someday."  Paddick said he would like to manage a course or have his own course.
"Jared's been a four-year letterman for us," said MCHS Coach White. "He's been real instrumental; we had some success. We've had some great golf teams over the last four years."  White noted that Paddick has been a part of three Regional Championship teams, two Sectional Championship teams, and teams that finished Seventh (as a junior) and Second (as a senior) in the State Tournament.  "Individually, he's come in Second in the Regional once and Third once," White added. "He also had a Third Place in the Sectional. This year he stepped it up and had an Eight Place at State."   "We're going to miss him this next year. It's been really fun having him the last four years. I think he probably made a good choice with Rend Lake. I think you'll see a lot of golfers leave junior college and go on to four-year schools," White added.
Smith said, "I'm glad to have him. I expect him to jump in this fall and play. I think he'll fit right in. I have three returning freshmen and I think he's going to make the team pretty strong."  "I think he's probably one of the better players in the state," Smith added. "I was very impressed with his golf swing. When you make the step up from high school to college that golf swing needs to be solid - he's on the road, he's in motels, he's going to school, there's a lot to it. There's not anything I need to mess with. I think he'll be a good college player."  Smith said most of his players do move on to four-year schools.
